My "girlfriend" is convinced the RV is hers. She just lets me drive it. She perches her royal self on top of the nearest picnic table to supervise set up and tear down. Love my dogs! Can't think of any better way to travel with dogs, and wouldn't EVER go without them.
We travel and weekend with 2 cats (himalayan's) and a small dog (Brussels Griffon) They all get along beautifully and truly enjoy the ride and the stay. Only thing I would recommend is starting them young, much easier. ~marg

I have a 40lb pound puppy (15 yrs old) and a 4lbs yorkie poo. They look like the odd couple but both enjoy camping. While we are loading the camper they have to sit inside so they are not left behind.....or so they think.
We take our Miniature Schnauzer (Kelsie) everywhere we go. We started with her when she was very young and house broke. She rides with no problems only uses the bathroom when we stop at rest areas or to fuel up. Would not think about leaving home without her.
We have always taken our smallest child(chihuahua) with us camping. We started with her when she was still only a few weeks old and she has grown up camping. She loves it, won't even let me go in the camper alone to clean it. She is afraid she will be left home. We have a new baby, he is 9 weeks old, and plan to introduce him to camping very soon. I hope is as good as his sister. My only regret is that our camper is not big enough to take our two very large dogs. Can't fit a fat cat, two chihuahuas, a chowchow, a great pyrenese and two humans in a 19ft hybrid. Someday we hope to have a toyhauler that we can use the garage to take the two big dogs along with us.
We would never think of leaving our Rott at home, as she is part of the family. But I will admit Sophie always invites lots of questions. It amazes us the number of people who are fascinated with her until they find out she is a Rottweiler - then they keep their distance because of the Rottweiler reputation. I like to think she is there to educate everyone. I encourage people to come up to our campsites and talk - it makes her more people friendly!
our dogs love camping as well. You just have to say "Lets go camping" and they are in the truck. We have a 7 year old Jack Russell Terrier and a 11 months old Beagle/Jack Russell mix.
I have camped with my four legged friends from the days of my boyhood. Currently has a Corgi that goes everywhere with me. She enjoys it and is great company. Some folk that travel with pets cause the rest of us problems by not following the rules, ie, clean up behind pets, dont have the kind that yap at all hours, and never, never have a mean or ill tempored dog etc. If we all follow the rules and guidelines we can all enjoy our pets more.
