dsi hot water heater switch

I am hoping someone can help.On the control panel the dsi hot water heater switch do I leave it on or just turn it on to heat the hot water. If so how long does it take to heat because we keep running out of hot water. Cold showers brrr! We have a 2012 Keystone Cougar 5th wheel. Thanks for any help DianeSee More
