On the road again... Final day

Hello hello! Sadly, we have reached the end of our journey arriving last night in Redding, CA. The weather here is gorgeous and we are excited to visit with our friends, Nancy and Don.I just want to take a minute to thank everyone who made our trip special and helped us along the way. In this day and age, people tend to keep their heads down and not help others. Well, in our little trek across the beautiful USA, we have found that there are many people who are glad to help and the world is…See More

Well we managed to avoid the snow, and the weather here in Elko has been perfect. Yesterday we did the Lamoille Byway which is about 70 miles or a half day drive. The area is simply beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife and birds, and since neither of us has been through this part of Nevada we were pleasantly surprised. In the afternoon, we headed to the living ghost town of Tuscarora. Jim read that there are world renowned artists that live in Tuscarora for the solitude. Well, that is no joke.…See More

Hello from Elko! We have decided to stay here a little longer than first expected since there is a storm passing overhead. Elko is a charming little town surrounded by the Ruby Mountains. The outskirts are teaming with things to do which Jim can’t resist. We visited the Northeaster NV Museum yesterday and the history of this area is full of trains and cowboys. Real cowboys. They had a display of old guns and saddles and it also has a huge collection of Ansel Adams’ original photos.Last night we…See More

Well we arrived last night in Elko, NV. There is still snow on the surrounding mountains and it does not feel at all like the desert Nevada you would expect. It is a country feel mountain town that has a relaxed setting and a busy underbelly. While we are here we are staying at the Iron Horse RV Resort. When we got here last night, it was pretty dark so we didn’t do much looking around. This morning I had a chance to do my walk around the resort and check everything out. It certainly isn’t as…See More

Hello from I-80 between Salt Lake and Elko, NV. We visited the Living Planet Aquarium this morning in Sandy, UT. It has been a while since either of us had been to an aquarium and wow this one was pretty impressive. They have sharks, sting rays, seahorses, jelly fish, and all kinds of freshwater fish as well. They had group of school children in for a field trip and that made it a little difficult to make our way through all the exhibits. But, they seemed to be really enjoying their visit.Right…See More

Hello everyone! Started day 9 of our journey across the country in Salt Lake City, UT. This morning we went to the Red Butte Gardens that has over 100 acres of lovely gardens. It is a part of the University of Utah which is probably why it is so well kept. They have lots of walking paths and even hiking paths through the natural garden areas. That was also very interesting: they have the display gardens that were clearly put together, and then they have natural garden areas that have grown on…See More

On the road again...

Hello All! Jim and I made it to our next stop in Salt Lake City. The drive was a little scary with all the wind and rain we were seeing. I will never get used to the feeling of being pushed around by the wind in a big rig. But, once we got here the sun poked through the clouds and has been pleasant ever since. Cheyenne Botanical Gardens were beautiful, too bad the weather wasn’t cooperating otherwise we would have stayed longer. While we are in Salt Lake we will be staying at the Pony Express RV…See More

On the road again...

Last night was a beautiful night in Cheyenne! Jim and I got to our camping space at Curt Gowdy National Park around 5:30pm. I got right to making a fire while Jim went down to the resivor to test his luck at catching some dinner. He read that they have rainbow trout and kokanee salmon (a kind I had never heard of). Well he came back after dark with a good sized brown trout and I had all the fixing ready. I threw a couple of foil wrapped baked potatoes in the coals and pan fried the trout with a…See More

On the road again..

Today we left Lincoln on our way to Cheyenne, WY. Before leaving Lincoln, I talked Jim into stopping at the Deer Springs Winery that is just a few minutes out of town. I have read about their award winning wines and wanted to stop by and grab a bottle as a gift to our CA friends. I picked their gold medal winning red wine, Prairie Sunset, that is supposed to pair well with beef or pasta. An interesting tidbit on the winery, it was left to an ancestor of Ulysses S. Grant back in 1874 and has been…See More

Lincoln, NE

Oh Lincoln, NE what a strange place and lovely place. We started our afternoon at the Sunken Gardens. Nestled in the center of Lincoln, you would never expect that kind of beauty to be hidden in the city. Goldfish ponds, bronze statues, and gorgeous flowers that would never survive in my garden flourish here. It’s free with donations welcomed so that made it even more enjoyable. The gal who works there said that spring is the most beautiful time, and I believe her. If I can figure out how to…See More

If you have not been there yet I would highly suggest stopping at both the Badlands National Park and at Mount Rushmore. Also there is a nice private campground at the US 81 exit, Salem SD, on I-90. The campground is Camp America. Have fun which ever way you choose.
