Black Hills SD - Crazy Horse - Rose's Viewpoint

June 4th – Crazy Horse. Off bright and early to Crazy Horse because this weekend there is a special event—the Volksmarch. Just once a year, Crazy Horse memorial opens up to the Volksmarch and allows visitors to walk up onto this giant sculptor- specifically Crazy Horse’s arm. So here we are along with thousands (as many as 15,000 have participated) hiking the 6.2 round trip trail to Crazy Horse’s arm.  Just imaging thousands of people of all nationalities, ages, and appearances…

Black Hills SD - Mt Rushmore - Rose's Viewpoint

June 2nd – Mt Rushmore. Finally we get to see Mt Rushmore- can’t believe it. Took Iron Mountain Road from south to north and what views! There are three small (no RV’s thru these babies) tunnels blasted through rock with large signs stating “honk horn when approaching”. Let me say they mean – honk the horn!! These are single lane tunnels with significant curves at both ends—so no way could you see if anyone was coming before you enter the tunnel. Better yet- imagine seeing Mt…

Black Hills SD - Harnet Peak - Rose's viewpoint

June 1st – Harney Peak hike.  As if yesterday’s hike wasn’t enough,  we decide to do the Harney Peak hike.  Some background: 3.2 miles to the highest point in SD and per the brochure the highest point east of the Rocky Mountain Range.  The brochure also says it is difficult with a strong ascent,  especially the last mile. Again with the definitions- this means that for 2.2 miles you walk uphill at 45 degrees- breathing like a freight train then you have the pleasure of walking 1…

Black Hills - Lover's Leap Trail & Wildlife Loop - Rose's viewpoint

May 31st – Lover’s Leap – makes you wonder about today’s plans???  Noel wants to do a hike so off we go to what the hiking book says is a beautiful hike. Okay- the good parts of the hike—awesome views almost the entire way,  I was so busy looking all around that I developed stump toe  (think about it—all those tree roots and me not paying any attention.)  Then at the top- here is a giant rock face you can scramble up and look down onto this picturesque valley- so serene and…

Not sure what to do here but, we are kind of young at heart people in the late 50's, really enjoying this rv life, I guess it would be good to chat to people of the same interest as this seems the only thing lacking...

Your bear photo is really good!
Where was that at?
My wife does most of the still shots with an Olympus SP-560UZ. It has an 18x Optical zoom. She has been looking into getting an SLR but wants to wait until the prices go down a bit before she makes a decision.

We haven't been to Fort De Soto yet.

oh well....there you go for sticking my foot out.....as for the bear pic, last year we (before we started to think about buying a coach) rented a mountain cabin in the Smokies...litrally on the side of a mountain.....wow Danial what a really great time we had...any way, we drove round single track roads Bear hunting...in Cades Cove we saw a black bear way off and decided to stop the truck a run over...ok so a bit dodgy maybe but I'm English and to get this close to a bear and litrally run with it through a wood was awesome fun...it actually reared up on me on it's back legs but, as I said my SLR was begining to play up and I could not focus in time...it's an auto focus that was not auto focusing at times....yes every time I needed it too....my first SLR was infact an Olympus, the broken thing at the bottom of my closet is a Nikon F60, my enjoyment is really Air shows..where photography is concerned...so I have a lot to learn re wild life I guess...and I'm really missing my 400 auto zoom lens....oh well enough of me for now...catch you again take care Noël and Rose

Your question about the kayaks slipped by me, sorry. We got ours on ebay last year. Great price and we were able to pick them up near Orlando airport. I'll see if I can find them on ebay. Oh, they did have tandem kayaks. I'll post a link here if I can find them ~marg
