Well, yesterday I picked up RV. Did the whole PDI thing which took me about 4 hours. Of course that time doesn't include the chassis, mechanical inspections I did when I looked at the RV earlier. All went well a few minor cosmetic things which are/will be worked. It could have been a bit cleaner but the way I am I'll go thru with a good cleaning anyway.
My submariner experience starting to kick in, especially as it applies to efficient packing and storage, and of course theres the thoughts of "…

Sooo Thats it....2 days drive and we are at Carlsbad Caverns, today is Tuesday (I think) we arrived Saturday to brilliant sun and overwhelming heat...folowing morning the sun had dissapeared.
That day we did the Carlsbad Caverns...they are mostly 800 feet below ground, the walk down was steep, we chose the walk in rather than the elevator but had to take it up...the caverns are really huge with a central point with a cafeteria and of course "t" shirt stall....of the 3 caverns we walked through o…

Alright!!! 2nd day here at the South rim....nothing out of the ordinary happened on the drive here...we did stop at a Canyon overview with Indian Souvenears stands, the check in time being 4pm at this camp ground slowed us down a bit...Thursday (yesterday) we just walked around to gain bearings and did some of the rim trail stopping every now and then to simply take in some awesome views of the Canyon below....Today 8/29/08 we hiked down the canyon to Ceder ridge...about a 3 mile round trip..tak…

The old pop-up sits in the back yard gathering bug droppings, ugh. Oldest son decides we must clean it up for him to use for cheap getaways while he is in law school. We pop it open and vacuum up the bug poo and wonder where the icky creatures have run off to as we continue the sanitation process. We found one small roach and there is no way on earth that little bug could have created all that excrement! Mart heard that one should sprinkle bug repellant around the tires of campers, and we will t…

Our son Mark Jr. accompanied Mart to view RVs in a Winter Garden store. The main "reason" was to check on what was available for the old pop-up in replacement tops, but Mart had an ulterior motive - - - RVs!!! It was raining like never before (A common August event in Florida!) and they ran for the door with beach towels draped over their heads (Commonly found in a Floridian's car!) because the umbrellas were drying in the garage at home (Common for optimistic Floridians that leave the house whe…

We went to the huge RV show in Tampa earlier this year and drooled over all the gorgeous rigs. We especially loved the Georgetown by Forest River that had a fireplace. Being a Floridan without a fireplace, this just seems so romantical.. Getting real, what use is a big ol' fireplace that takes up an entire corner? Mart thought she had to have a washer/dryer, but another reality check: only 2 pairs of Mark's giant 46/36 jeans would make a full load, plus that precious space issue comes up. 6'6" M…

Right....well here we are in ZION!!!! Yes we made it....the last day in Bryce we did the Fairy tale loop, a mind blowing, strenuous trail, the reason being to see the famous Tower Bridge Arch, which actually really did look like the Tower Bridge over the Thames in London uk...this trail was an 8 mile loop...however the last 3 miles we had a lightning storm and I can tell you being on a trail that takes you over narrow high edge paths, slippery sand covered boulders and steep inclines and decents…

Ok People...today is Sunday, we left Colorado about 10.30 am after having one of those "you need to do this..and this when you get to Moab" from a friendly niebor....um yes that's where we are at Utah...a few minutes into the State and wow!! We have already drove past several interesting points like "hole in the rock" (apparently some guy built a house in-side a hole in a rock face) and a mountainous wall of Sand stone (of which Utah looks to be built on) with a hole inside big enough to drive a…

Today is Wednesday...we are at Delores River RV park...got here Sunday quite early as the ride over from Silverton was only just a little more than 100 miles and, the mountain crossing one of the easiest so far, mainly I guess because there was more decending than climbing, meaning that we are at a much lower altitude for a change...
I know I know I said I would write about Friday...sheeeeze no rest for the wicked...Friday, I'm really lost for words on this scary 4x4 loop....the sceanery was ju…

Well, actually I was not intending to give a day by day account of the trip however sometimes thats how good it is...the day after the fabulous Monday at Royal Gorge we did what they call the Golden Belt drive...most of it recomended 4x4...this route was from Cannon City through 3 different routes to Victor and Cripple Creek, this is where they mined Silver....before I was born that is...now why 4x4 you ask...ok so imagine a railtrack winding up the side of a mountain, um well perhaps several mo…

Scotland UK keep it....he he!! So I thought Scotland was one of the most sceanic places I'd been too....ok so Black Bear lake in the Rocky's was a great day...did not actually get the Kayak into it...Miss Hitler park warden made sure of that...however the walk around it (half mile) secured it as the best sceanic lake I have seen...the walk to nearby Alberta falls made the day.....this was last Friday...Saturday we drove 200 miles to our next camp site, here in Howard, Colorado, a very nice, clea…
