Today is Wednesday...we are at Delores River RV park...got here Sunday quite early as the ride over from Silverton was only just a little more than 100 miles and, the mountain crossing one of the easiest so far, mainly I guess because there was more decending than climbing, meaning that we are at a much lower altitude for a change...
I know I know I said I would write about Friday...sheeeeze no rest for the wicked...Friday, I'm really lost for words on this scary 4x4 loop....the sceanery was just awesome as you can see in the pics now uploaded, we must have climbed 5,000 feet in the hired jeep...the facinating thing to me though released a high pitch noise from Rose's throat was the tight switchbacks that would appear as large boulders that formed these switchbacks, the jeep struggling to get a grip even in (and could only succeed in) 4 low.... would litrally bounce over these boulders at the same time as side sliding towards the edge of a 3,000 ft sheer drop....GREAT FUN!!!!!!! But I'm sorry we made it up and down and up and down and up and down...up being 12,000 ft down being 7,000 ft ...the whole lengh of this 83 mile 4x4 loop was full of wonderous mountain ranges mostly spotted with snow, awesome stuff, awesome loop, awesome fun people.....
Monday was also fun though a little more calmer...one of the main reasons we decided on this area was the four corners monument, we just wanted to do the foot or hand in one of the 4 States thing, after taking pics we just strode around the little stalls that Ute and Navajo indians were hand making necklase's, bracelets and all kinds of oddments....even though we walked around the stalls not once but 3 times we had time to spend a couple of hours in the Casino that we had past on the way up, on the way back...and that was for one of us a kinda meloncolney Monday. (hmm spelling)
Tuesday...was Mesa Verdi day...this is a National Park (so we have used the free parks ticket we had for last xmas 3 times on this trip so far) (Thanks Cheryl, Dawn and Becky) (oh and whats his name um Bob I think) From the gate the trip to the Visitors centre where people need to reserve thier place on any tour they think they can manage to get through that day...was a 20 mile drive through a magnificent mountain range, after booking 2 tours we drove off to the first house...ok so for those who don't know Mesa verdi is a rock dwelling park....years ago the Pueblo indians used to build houses into the under rocks of these canyons...the first tour was kinda easy climbing ladders and and a trail down to the house, there was not much left of the house's where roof are concerned but it's easy to get the idea of what life was like living in these man made brick and mortar buildings....the 2nd tour at 5pm was a little bit more of a task...well for at least one of us....half way through we had a lightning storm so where held up below one of the over hanging rock cielings for the want of a better word...whilst the tour guide kept us busy with endless information, I guess to try and take our minds off the lightning...now to get from the house (and please look at what I mean by this on the pics) we had to climb a wooded 32 ft ladder almost vertical ok...then crawl through a tunnel no bigger than Rose...climb under a massive rock that looked like it was about to slide off the ridge to the canyon below..( I tried pushing it but got a shriek from Rose)(end of) then we had to assend about 100 foot of steep wet and slippery rock on a 6 inch ledge..zig zagging....great fun....well one of us thought so...no honestly this day we put under the Royal Gorge as being the 2nd most exciting day of the trip....I am still dumbfounded by the awesomeness of this part of America...
Today Wednesday..I've tied Rose to the sofa and had an easy day of it....I've actually done "nothing" Just a minute did I type "Nothing".....damn right I did he he!!!
