Still here in Utah in fact till next Monday....Today is Thursday, we are having another of those hang around the coach days to get things caught up....I have so many pics in the diggi it's untrue...Monday as said in the last section we headed for the Arches..expecting to be pleased but in fact overwhelmed by the towering rock sand mounds....it was actually quite fun just putting faces and animal features to the rock shape's..I think I got a great shot of one that looked like Darth Vader's helmet but you can see for your self in the pics when I have time to upload...after checking the map, decided to go to the furthest of Arch hikes...this being the double "O" arch, although there was one a little further that time ruled out, (well over 100 degree temps also helped) the Arch trail also had side trails to other magnificent Arches...Navajo Arch, well I don't know it just seem to be a bit nostalgic maybe...the main trail went passed an arch that slightly collapsed a while ago luckily a guy from Colorado had his diggi ready and the picture he took was on the info board, all told the 160 tons of rock fell off the Arch that day but you would never believe it by looking at it, such is the size and lenth of this particular one....the round trip to Double O was over 4 miles but with the extra side trails to visit other Arches we must of topped over 5 miles..ok not so long a walk hu? Well in this case you will need to do it...because not only did we have the weather to contend with but this trail was as difficult as you can get, well for some...literally walking along ridge's of mountain tops, clambering over boulders and steep slippery slopes...things we do to get you pics....but wow what an awesome trail...with towering slender mounds of this sand stone...these mounds look like huge Castle's or Cathedrals of all shapes and size's some slender that look like someone had carved the shape of an Eagle or a trio of Kings.....many with rocks petering to fall on unsuspecting viewers any second...throughout the park just about all of the rock formations had this lighter white and I would say slightly harder vein running through them....the famous Balancing Rock for instance is literally balancing on this white rock and slowly eroding vein, so in time it will fall as did it's little side kick "Chip off the old Block", which fell in the winter of 75/76.....we decided to end that day only seeing a part of what we intended and, due to this made plans to spend another day doing the hike to Delicate Arch and the Window Arches.....
Tuesday as said we would previously, drove back along the way we came to the House in the rock (Called hole "n" the rock) (this actually reminded me of a trip to Tenerifëe in the Canary islands, where a famous painter called Ceaser Anrich, built a house in a Larva Bubble...actually quite awesome and certainly more homely than this...anyway a little further was the hole in the rock that you could fit a semi through hmmm more like 6..we climbed up to it and it was truly massive....I know there just a hole in sandstone but there is just something about these arches...anyway, then the House in the rock....there were several kinda not so interesting things to do before the tour it self...Rose brought a T shirt from the Gift shop the like I've never seen....(did I mention to say that we spend hours looking at T shirts in these towns we go too...infact I have a collection of T shirts that no one can second...(oh dear thats a challenge) ops ok so the house...the tour itself was fascinating, if the tour guide was not....but worth doing...later that day we visited Moab town ending up lunching in a Thia Restaurant, which by the way I really did enjoy...then yes your right T shirt hunting....oh and lastly we booked up for a Thursday evening Cowboy dinner and trip up the Colorado river on a Jet boat to view a sound and light spectacular on the canyon walls....see ya he he !! "We luv Utah!!!"
