Well we managed to avoid the snow, and the weather here in Elko has been perfect. Yesterday we did the Lamoille Byway which is about 70 miles or a half day drive. The area is simply beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife and birds, and since neither of us has been through this part of Nevada we were pleasantly surprised. In the afternoon, we headed to the living ghost town of Tuscarora. Jim read that there are world renowned artists that live in Tuscarora for the solitude. Well, that is no joke. Solitude is all you will find out there. The interesting part of this ghost town is the old cemetery. Crumbling headstones of good old boys fill the lot. I could almost feel the history of cowboys and miners in the air when we walked through the cemetery.
Last night we went up to the Hilton Garden Inn that sits just above the Iron Horse on the hill. Since we are guests at the RV Resort, we get a 20% discount at their Great American Grill restaurant. I highly recommend taking advantage of the discount because the food was better than we had hoped. I got the pork green chili verde and it was delicious (almost as good as mine!)
I will be sad to leave this new found escape and go on to California where everything moves at high speed. The town of Elko sure helps you take it slow and kick back a little bit, and I think that is just what we needed…
