Thought I'd pass along a couple of hard lessons learned. I usually post on the FL Group site, but thought this might help others.....
Returning home from a campout @ Hillsborough River State Park, in FL, I was on I-4 E @ exit 28 when my left tire blew out on my single axle travel trailer about 1:30 PM on Friday. I was in the middle lane @ 65mph, I looked to my right & no one was next to me on the inside lane, so I pulled over under a bridge and off the main road. I am a Good Sam's member but did not have any travel insurance. Made a bunch of calls, it looked like a tow was in the mix @ a minimum of $300 + the cost of 2 tires, the 'good tire' was also about to go too. Before I authorized the tow, the Good Sam's folks gave me several #s of their Good Samaratians in the Lakeland, FL area. Called one & he made a lot of calls for us & we found a tire dealer that had roadside service. We got a gent to replace both tires. Glad I had a highway safety vest with me, recommend everyone have them with their rig. For some reason he did not replace the valve stems. We had about 70 more miles to get home. When we got to the storage lot the right tire was looking pretty low. The next morning we contacted the dealer & he dispached another gent to correct the problem. It was the valve stem. So, I would highly recommend that should you need new tires on the road, get new valve stems too! Yes, I am going to get insurace to cover any other bumps in the road I have. It really could have been a lot worse than it was.
Hope everyone out there has safe travel.
